Mobility aids and patient transport

Safe, ergonomic mobility is a key issue in healthcare. Whether stair climbers or mobile stretchers, the systems must support both patients and nursing staff. Electromechanical solutions are increasingly replacing hydraulic systems because they are more efficient and require less maintenance. Powerful, reliable, yet compact drives are used for this purpose, performing movements quietly and reliably.

Three-stage spur gear – drive solution for stair climbers

Framo Morat developed a three-stage spur gear unit for use in a stair climber that meets the highest standards of smooth running and performance. The stair climber can be easily attached to standard wheelchairs, enabling the safe transport of persons weighing up to 160 kg – both up and down stairs.
The outstanding quality of the gear components ensures quiet, powerful operation and was decisive in the manufacturer's decision to choose Framo Morat as the supplier of the gear unit.

The advantages of the three-stage spur gear unit at a glance:

  • High load capacity: Can transport people weighing up to 160 kg
  • Quiet and powerful: Optimized gearing for maximum smoothness and efficiency
  • Easy to integrate: Suitable for standard wheelchairs

Mobile stretcher with compact drive unit for patient transport

Transporting patients places high demands not only on safety, but also on ergonomics for rescue personnel. It is crucial to avoid unnecessary strain, especially in the case of patients who are already weakened or injured. At the same time, the rescue team must be physically relieved in order to prevent back problems and overexertion.
To meet these requirements, Framo Morat has developed a powerful, robust, and compact drive unit. The motor-gear unit solution is designed for high loads and is electronically controlled. The BLDC motor delivers high torque (>500 Nm from Ø 80 mm), ensuring powerful, controlled movements – with significantly higher efficiency than hydraulic systems. This allows the mobile stretcher to be raised and lowered gently, which is easier on the patient and noticeably reduces the physical strain on the emergency personnel. In addition, the drive unit supports smooth driving and steering characteristics, an ergonomically correct working height, and safe loading and unloading of the patient.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Powerful lifting and driving movements thanks to high torque and precise control via BLDC motor
  • Higher efficiency compared to hydraulic systems thanks to electromechanical drive unit with BLDC motor and high-ratio special planetary gearbox
  • Lightweight, compact design for effortless handling and high mobility
