The demands on drive systems are particularly high when high power density, minimal dimensions, and lightweight construction are required. Here, the Compacta series slip-on geared motors from Framo Morat provide the ideal solution.
These customizable drive systems integrate a powerful motor, a worm spur gear unit, and limit switches for precise positioning in a lightweight, rigid, die-cast aluminum housing.
The Compacta series’ well-conceived design is proven, with its standard configurations alone deployed in over 100 applications. The possible applications are wide-ranging: The Compacta series is powerful and robust in sheet metal working and mechanical engineering, compact and versatile in industrial automation, lighting and stage technology, and weather-resistant and visually appealing in solar and building technology. Preconfigured standard variants
Our standard variants combine the experience gained from numerous successful projects. With standardized mechanical and electrical interfaces, they can be easily integrated into existing systems and used across a wide range of applications.
The Compacta standard drives are based on four established sizes, each offering specific advantages depending on the required performance and available installation space. Altogether, this results in around 100 different standard models that stand out for their short delivery times, high cost-effectiveness, and availability even in small quantities.

Customizable standard variants
Some applications are so demanding that they require special attention to detail – for example, when the available space is too small, or when specific performance values for speed, torque, lifting speed, or lifting force are required. We have had excellent results modifying our standard variants MR6, MS12, MR30, and AG160 to create simple, cost-effective solutions for our customers.
By combining existing modules and offering a wide range of options, we can provide customized, modified drives for suitable production volumes.

Possible applications for the Compacta slip-on geared motor
Sheet metal working
In press brakes and sheet metal bending machines, Compacta drives provide precise adjustment of the crowning unit. This unit compensates for the deflection of the bed and ram, ensuring consistently accurate bending results. The powerful drive positions the eccentric shaft effortlessly and precisely, while the Compacta’s compact dimensions allow for easy integration into the bending machine.
Semiconductor production
In wafer manufacturing, heavy lids of large vacuum chambers must be moved safely and cleanly. A modified standard drive, based on the Compacta AG160, delivers the high torque required for this, while its smooth, fanless design prevents particle dispersion. A special non-stick coating facilitates cleaning and supports use in cleanroom environments.
Plant engineering
Compacta drives adjust the limit stops of metal blank loaders, improving material handling and increasing the precision of body part production. Thanks to their high speeds, Compacta drives can quickly move the stops into the desired position.
Building technology
Facade sunshades are easy to adjust with the Compacta. A linkage and a toothed rack transfer the force of the slip-on geared motor to an entire segment of the sunshades. The drive’s attractive design and weather resistance make it suitable for installation in visible locations and outdoors.
Solar technology
Dual-axis tracking systems increase the effectiveness of photovoltaic systems by aligning the solar modules with the sun. For precise adjustment, Framo Morat has developed drive systems based on the Compacta series, designed specifically for use in harsh outdoor environments. With a positioning system, an entire row of trackers can be controlled using just one drive.
Pool technology
Thanks to their integrated automatic switches, Compacta slip-on geared motors are ideal for applications involving reversing operation – such as winding and unwinding pool covers. With splash protection and a 24 V DC motor, the drive can be safely and reliably operated in continuous use around water.

Lighting and stage technology
Whenever you have spotlights that are repositioned at the push of a button or curtains that lower silently, Compacta geared motors are often the driving force behind the scenes. Their compact design allows for easy integration into confined spaces and fast mounting on trusses. Their integrated dynamic self-locking feature reliably prevents loads from lowering when the power is off, ensuring maximum safety. MTS Media Technical System has been using the MS12 and MR30 models for over 25 years in studios across the US, Japan, and Singapore – thanks to their proven reliability, safety, and versatility.
Food technology
The Compacta AG160 is used as a hinged cover drive for high-tech tumblers, which are machines for the automatic mixing, tumbling, and marinating of meat and sausage products from Rühle GmbH, a renowned Black Forest manufacturer of food and meat processing equipment. The tumblers feature a computer-controlled 20-second loading system, during which the 60 kg lid is opened and closed at a 90° angle.
Maintenance of ICE long-distance trains
At the ICE facility in Leipzig, long-distance trains are regularly serviced and maintained. Two Framo Morat drive solutions ensure safe and efficient work on the train roofs. The application’s core consists of 72 MR6 type Compacta geared motors that precisely position work platforms along the roof edge after the train enters. Their compact design allows for integration into tight structures, while the continuous hollow shaft enables the easy coupling of multiple platforms. This provides a flexible, space-saving, highly secure solution. An additional 56 custom linear actuators on the opposite side move the platforms to the roof edge, ensuring reliable fall protection for maintenance personnel.
